Short Story
Dear friends,
My name is Aisha Ogieriakhi. I work at Blue Baby Support Initiative, Blue Baby Support Initiative – Welcome to Blue Baby Support Initiative, where we have engendered intervention for women, children and other underprivileged individuals. At the last count, we have aided over 5,000 children to access education, supported the needs of 3000 mothers and over a 100 communities. We could never have attained these milestones without the active support of over 200 Volunteers spread across the UK and Nigeria.
In furtherance of the work we do, I would love to say that this hits home in a most sobering way. I am craving your support for a former colleague and schoolmate at Oyo State College of Arts and Science (OSCAS), Ile-Ife, Olatunji Ope. Beyond being a schoolmate, Olatunji, a 6’4 gentleman in height trained many of us back in school how to play basketball. Fondly called TJ, he is athletic, disciplined, focused, and consistently supportive of those around him. Following an unfortunate incident however, Olatunji lost the use of his legs. Today, he remains the same resilient, hardworking, and astute individual, a devoted husband, father, brother, and friend, now requiring support to regain mobility. Olatunji Ope needs urgent medical intervention to improve his physical function through a stem cell procedure. Here is Olatunji Ope’s story as narrated by him:
My name is Olatunji Ope, and I have Neuromuscular Myopathy. This means I can’t walk unassisted, even though I still try to do some form of exercise and weight training to retain some muscular and bone strength. Though genetic, it fully manifested 12 years ago, and since then, I have tried all kinds of conventional and unconventional solutions in and out of the country, which has practically wiped out my account and ensures that everything I earn, including financial support from friends, goes to medications and supplements, apart from hindering my capacity to fully care for my family. The diagnosis requires that I undergo Stem Cell Treatment or Gene Therapy, which is an incredibly expensive course of treatments and therefore compels me to call on friends, colleagues and well-wishers to help raise $35,000, to cover 3 sessions and maintenance therapy to help me regain my mobility and physical independence. God bless you and may His love and mercy surround you and abide with you. Amen.
We are reaching out as friends, united in purpose, to seek your kind financial support as he prepares for this critical medical procedure. Please, join us to help Olatunji walk again.
